OBJECTIVE

Luminato is a multi-arts festival that celebrates the energy of Toronto and connects people through memorable art experiences. In 2021, COVID-19 affected the festival's reach, creating a need for a platform to view online and in-person events. The ultimate goal was to bridge the gap between artists and audiences, enabling patrons to register for events, stream events, read past festival stories, and listen to event podcasts. On top of creating a new custom website, Luminato requested a brand refresh, including new colours and typography to represent their artistic, unconventional, and contemporary essence. The aesthetic goal was to evoke beauty, surprise, creativity, innovation, and unconventionality.

SOLUTION

The user-friendly, responsive website became a lifeline to Luminato's 2021 Festival, as most events were streamed and viewed online. The site is accessible to all audiences; including large typography, contrasting colours, and the accessiBe feature, allowing users to customize the interface to their preferences. The new colour palette brings vibrancy and surprise, with black and white being the primary colours, and four bright secondary colours, consisting dark purple, red, light purple, and green. For typography, a hierarchal system was implemented, with the use of fonts "Favorit Extended Bold" for headlines, "Favorit Regular" for body, and "Favorit Expanded Medium" for buttons and unique instances. With extra large buttons and extra interactivity, the website hosts a creative, avant-garde platform for Luminato attendees to explore.
